It makes since to me for it to cost more. I love oblivion so I think I'll like Fallout too :). Also getting Fable II and Star Wars The Force Unleashed (Shot game awesome comcept!).
F3 are not a "new" game its using same engine as Oblivion and all its features so all they had to do is modify it to there likings ..... its an advanced Oblivion mod imo
No it's not. That's like saying Gears of War is an Unreal Tourament 3 mod, or that The Witcher is a Neverwinter Nights 2 mod. It's not, they just use the same engine. The engine isn't the be-all and end-all of a game. There's a lot more to designing a game.

There is a strong hint of Oblivion in it though, or maybe a strong hint of Bethsoft in both. But to my mind it actually works better than Oblivion, which seemed quite cold and impersonal (as did Morrowind). This does too but it suits the setting more

*Edit : Nice to see the Havok Physics Engine, which is also in the HL2 engine, is here as well. They're a company based across the road from where I used to work in the Digital Hub in Dublin. Nice so see them do so well, I was chuffed when Havok popped onto my screen the first time I loaded it.

Yeah, most game devs work with tools that they bought the licences for, it would take forever to build an engine from scratch every single time... many ppl have the misconception that same engine = 5 minutes of work on original game, I blame that on the way console titles get milked ^^

bad example using GoW and UTIII, both being Epic.

as for 5 mins - there be the lawsuit over the UT engine by Silicon Knights for Too Human. Meant to be using UT3 engine, SK said Epic didnt deliver on what they promised, they were off a tweakin n a twiddlin for GoW and didnt give the love needed to the raw engine and it's clients. They then went off and developed their own engine inhouse, while the lawsuit trundles along...

Look at any AAA title and the number of licenced technologies(gfx engine, trees!, physics, weather, landscape buidling, the list goes on...all licenced tech), budgets required, manhours required...games now are nearing/surpassing hollywood productions, the one man game cannot cut it anymore, there was a workforce of about 1000 ppl on GTA IV I think. Only way to get the foot in the door now is to make a kickass mod, and even then you are looking at multiple ppl on a fairly long timeframe

Havok, alas swallowed by Intel, is just the name of the company, they have various different physics products that they flog. Euphoria is another physics engine, used in GTA IV and in Force Unleashed, but damnit it's pretty class. It's a full skeletal animation system, so havok ragdolls are being dropped in favour of this, but the rest physics, destruction etc being kept havok for now

PC Ftw ^^

PS3 is kinda wonky though, I'd say the ground texture is nicer, but everything thats a bit further away lacks detail and is all blurry..
