This guy had his macbook stolen from his apartment. Using an app called 'Hidden' he took pics of the guy and posted them to a tumblr page. After it got so much attention police got involved. They knew the guy was a cab driver from the app used to spy on him, and tricked him into picking them up. Does that program need the user to be logged in? I've read a few stories about that gobshite but no1 has pointed out if it works without access to the users stuff. My laptop and my eee have a relatively decent password and encrypted home partitions so logging in won't work. Apparently some lenevo laptops actually have a similar software built into their BIOS's so that even if the machine is formatted it can phone home.
...although on second thoughts a chinese laptop that phones home might not be the wisest thing
