Japan Earth Quake
Re: Japan Earth Quake
It was only the cooling system that exploded which was a mixture of steam and Hydrogen and oil. the reactor had back up generators and when that failed a limited battery supply. The radiation would have been nominal and Reactor 1 is now off and cooled by pumped water from the sea. Thier is no nuclear fall out yet.

We decided to prepare implementing measures to reduce the pressure of the reactor containment vessel (partial discharge of air containing radioactive materials) in order to fully secure safety.
Re: Japan Earth Quake
that was for reactor 4 , it was reactor 1 that exploded.
and the summary is overall:-

"A large explosion has occurred at the Fukushima-Daiichi - or Fukushima No. I - nuclear power plant in north-eastern Japan, close to the epicentre of Friday's earthquake. But officials say the container housing the reactor was not damaged. Sea water is being pumped into the reactor to cool it. Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from the area".

Re: Japan Earth Quake
alright, I make it easy for you. My source is a press release from the company running the nuclear power plant, your source is a uk media outlet.
If you would have read through the press release you would have seen that this procedure had been done at each of the 4 units.
The fact that they are pumping sea water in to cool down the reactor shows how desperate they are.
This will corrode the shit out of everything.

Re: Japan Earth Quake
You summise i did not read from your your press release link. Well I like to look at more than one source of information before making an objective view.
All the reactors have saftey procedures inplace in such and event happens, i.e.turn off immediately when sensors pick up an earthquake at a high enough level to be an issue.
Thats just a press release stating and hourly account of what has happened.
This is not going to turn into another Chernobyl.
Just at the start of the explosion you would have seen a greater explosion and higher Rad complement to match if the Nuclear Fusion had exploded and would have proberly taken out more than just one coolent system.

If the reports of radioactive leakage are true than this is already somewhat serious surelySharp Dagger wrote:There is no way this will turn in anyway serious.

Phew, was really worried about some friends of mine, just found out that they live on the other side of the island so all is well... Can't resist though...

What does that mean anyway?Avenging wrote:This is not going to turn into another Chernobyl.
Ever heard of the three mile island accident?
Clearly, you did not read it or you would have recognised that radioactive air had been released at 4 of the 4 reported units.Avenging wrote:You summise i did not read from your your press release link.
I like information out of first hand, direct sources, I think that's the case with the press release from the power company.
All I did was stating facts, all you need to do is count 1 plus 1 together.
Facts:
- Radioactive air has been released.
Weather in the pacific ocean will bring air from Japan to the west coast of the US.
Aftershocks are still occuring. - http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/ ... es_all.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I wasn't able to find the long version of the statement on nhk.or.jp so you have to watch it on an austrian news site, if you do.

Plus, I trust Tepco as much as I trusted BP when they said everything is fine.
Re: Japan Earth Quake
Radation has leaked but not high enough to be harmfull to Humans. Just read on the BBC.

Press Release (Mar 12,2011)
Plant Status of Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station (as of 11pm March 12th)
No radiation impact to the external environment has been confirmed.
We will continue to monitor in detail the possibility of radioactive
material being discharged from exhaust stack or discharge canal.
On another note the death toll of over 10.000 is likely, very sad
