Re: Pyro discussion
My most played class is pyro and I would love 200 hp. (Approaching 200 hours)
I think the reason Valve didn't do it is to reinforce their class rule that the pryo is a flank-attack, suicide-run type of guy.
As a pyro you die - a lot. So if you want points you really have to make every second of your life count, because let's face it, pyros are best at assists - and you don't get any points for assists.
The backburner is meant for rushing right into the enemy's back. This backfires a lot. A single rocket, crit melee, nade, crit scattergun, heck, just about anything they can do to you as they turn around will send you right back to the respawn. It's suicidal.
How about the flame thrower? If you want to win with the flame thrower, it's usually a face to face type of fight - you set them on fire and then get the f*** back and pelt them with your shotty or else they land a surprise crit rocket/sticky in your face when you are too close. The opponent usually gets away.
Or your shot gun? Good for you if you land a nice bullet in your opponent's brains way across the map but someone probably already did a bunch of damage on him already, that makes it an assist - you stopped a potential team mate loss / flag capture / cp capture, but no points for you!
Heck man, now that I think about it, pyros don't get many points at all. You rush in and you rush out and then you die. Or you rush in and you die. Or, you rush in, rush out, sneak about, hog about all the health on the map to live a little while longer, or hover around your respawn, and then eventually inevitably die to a random crit.
Whoever says that pyros dont take skill is not very bright.
With the backburner you have to be damn sneaky and know where all the health is on the map.
With your melee - well melee takes a lot of work and practice to get it right, about every class melee is the same.
With the flamethrower, also a lot of work, you have to get close and stay close. When your flame crits, it looses some of its length, which brings you even closer. And the closer you are the more damage you take. Pyro v Pyro is nerve wracking, the person with the most flame time and best angle wins. You constantly have to watch your angle with any opponent because there is a certain side angle they can take and receive no harm from your flame up close. Airblast requires a lot of practice and timing. It doesn't work very well up close, and it has a ... i forget the word... but there's a long gap before you can switch weapons or do another air blast after your previous, leaving you vunerable.
Flamethrower is best in combo with shotty, you have 6 of them before you have to reload so you've got to aim accurrately and quickly.
As a pyro you are the third fastest class (Scout > Medic > Pyro ) but that doesn't make you immune to anything. You are overweight, pudgy, and you make footsteps. You're a pretty easy target for snipers and just about everyone else except medic.
In summary : playing pyro is hard. You don't get many points. You die all too easily. You have to be a master of your weapons and techniques, sneaky, jumpy, dodgy, and memorize all health locations.
Anyone up for trading pyro tatics?
I have some pretty interesting ones but I'm interested in learning something new more than giving away all my secrets.
More discussion / debate welcome.

Re: Pyro discussion
i would like the pyro to set up his own form of sticky bomb... a cluster of boxes... enemy walks over them, they flare up, pyrotechnics etc...
stick with 150hp a pyro can take ouut a lvl 3 sg from close range not many classes can.
flare gun is useless... "oh wow, geez... im on fire for a bit... and you are 200 metres away..." shocking. need to replace it with a PyroKit.

you have a considerable more deaths to kills... skills?
Pyros IMO are for getting rid of sentrys, spy checks andtight maps (as apposed to open maps like badwater) for 'surprise' to throw defence/ offense off guard
stay as he is, anyone can press a button to reflect a rocket/ pipe bomb it isnt hard... just you need to learn who to attack and not the first enemy you come up against - prioritise.

All you need is to master the pyro-wiggle - ask Dharma to demonstrate.

Re: Pyro discussion
I am very passionate about this subject. Pyro is easy to a point, if you like dying. Pyro's catch a ton of flack on the server. I can understand why, because I kill you all a lot, but it's not easy. I have to find a way to sneak up on you without being seen. If the server is full, mouse1+W will do, but won't get me any points, just serves as a distraction. You may be surprised to learn that I use the S, A, and D keys quite often, as circle strafe is crucial. Mouse 2 does nothing for the backburner, so I don't use it. But simply moving forward on an enemy is a death wish. Yes, a good wiggle on a one on one pyro battle will usually do the trick. If you were too look up how to play pyro you would discover that the flame has a natural lag, and that a head on position is not the best to take.....let me stop b4 all my secrets are out. The backburner should get 200 hp, because it crits less than the flamethrower, but w/e i don't need it.
If there is a pyro on your team, show him/her some love...deep down you know how valuable they are.

Re: Pyro discussion
What I like to do as a Pyro is setting as much enemy on fire as possible, and laugh at them in afterlife.
The rest is done by my teammates, coz if I do it right, there are just not enough enemy Medics to heal everyone.
But I still hate being on fire, a slow death but still fast enough to die right before a medkit, so no thanks, I don't support the HP increase.
Pyros already anger me too much when they set me on fire when I'm a Spy...

Well, half a pointxexes wrote:and you don't get any points for assists.

I love playing pyro though, the most mental class to play and a lot of fun as long as you don't mind dying. Nice tips Dharma, best way to learn is to play it and understand how the weapons work etc (think I'm stating the obvious here...), and yeh don't nessicarily aim at where an opponent is standing when you fire the flame thrower up, aim in front of them so they run in to it.
