ok, here's my autoexec.cfg values:
r_fastzreject 1
mat_disable_bloom 1
r_3dsky 0
r_dynamic 0
mat_dxlevel 90
muzzleflash_light 0
cl_ejectbrass 0
cl_show_splashes 0
r_decals 0
mp_decals 0
r_drawmodeldecals 0
r_waterforceexpensive 0
r_waterforcereflectentities 0
r_drawdetailprops 0
cl_phys_props_enable 0
cl_ragdoll_collide 0
cl_ragdoll_fade_time 0
cl_ragdoll_physics_enable 0
cl_forcepreload 1
cl_showfps 1
as you can see i use direct x 9 because my computer is running on vista, this gives you a more stable fps, direct x 8 on vista will suck, don't ask me why. if you use the tweaker you have to set you're dx level in launch options only once (cause this will keep resetting you're video settings)
so for vista this would be the launch options: -novid -dxlevel 90
for xp: -novid -dxlevel 81
oh, if you have a processor with multiple cores, don't forget to put this value in the autoexec.cfg:
mat_queue_mode 2
this will enable two cores of your processor instead of one. if you have a quadcore than don't type mat_queue_mode 4. TF2 can only run in 2 cores, not in 4 or 8 so that would be an invalid value.
gl hf tweaking!

Re: TF2 visibility tweaks
The only thing tf2 tweaker do is overwriting autoexec.cfg with the settings you've chosen.Exfane wrote:the tf2 tweaker is fine, you must have done something wrong. Maybe you forgot to put dxlvl 80 in your tf2 launch options, this will enable directx 8 instead of 9.
Are some settings only accepted in DX8 ? Bit unlogical as there are parameters to enable or disable them.
Decals, ragdoll physics settings for example are working (funny as killed enemies just disappear immediately ) ,but I dont see any difference for the ejectbrass, muzzleflash and drawflecks, which are for me the 3 important settings I only need. Well ,if only those 3 were working I would be happy.
I will try this evening with -dxlevel81 in the launch options of TF2
See if it helps.
Thanks for the feedback so far . Appreciated.
Cheers

Re: TF2 visibility tweaks
ok, i don't know what would be the problem but here's the website i used for my tweaking:
http://www.tweakguides.com/HL2_1.html
check it out, it's a nice and long guide explaining a lot!
ps: i thaught there was a startup command to force the autoexec.cfg file when you start up the game, couldn't find it though
