Just to get it out of the way, I've never used an idle program.
Basically, to sum it all up...I think vavle wants players to diversify. Newbs to the game pretty much stuck with medic or soldier....spy was something to work up to. Then the drop system comes along to encourage players to try new types of gameplay. I don't think valve wants us to have 800 hours at soldier, but 2 hours at spy. New tactics came along with offensive snipers, uber-stopping scouts, and I do see more pyros guarding sentries with air-blast than fire now. Change is good, embrace it.
When the sniper/spy and drop system came out, all of you were most likely in bed. I joined a random server to start working on my sniper unlocks. I hadn't played sniper much at all, but because of my deep resentment of the spy, I started with sniper. Within minutes I had a huntsman. I was the first person to find anything on that server. So I continued with the huntsman for about 30 hours, and I got a sniper hat. Woo hoo! Huntsman got old after 50 hrs or so, so I started trying anything but pyro. I switched load outs a lot for the other classes. It took a lot of hours, but before you know it I have 2 sexy demo hats.

I'm not saying this is even a likely scenario, but I'm going to keep playing my least played classes, and trying new tactics. Sure, my k/d will suffer and my team might loose because of me, but this is about accessories. So everyone go n00b!
By the way...if this trade stuff ever happens, my second demo hat will be auctioned to the highest bidder.
