It happens alot in WoW, people spent their own money to get in game currency to buy better gear and such. If you wanna be a good player you need money in the game. There are constantly bots in the main cities spamming everyone and pissing everyone off, most people are used to it now though lol.

Well buying fake money with real money is understandable for people that have to work and don't have a lot of free time to play. Otherwise buying stuff in a game is just ridiculous.

Anyone who buys wow gold is a moron and a supporter of account stealing, direct or indirect. That's where most of the gold comes from, stolen accounts.

And of course chinese farmers and bots.
