Have they fixed the problems with multi core rendering and nvidia drivers ? I had to downgrade to 174.24 drivers for it to work / not crash in L4D.

How about the crash on exit in Vista 32? I get it every time I quit.

So did I JonnyWhy.. so I went to Windows 7 and no more crashes.

L4D would completely hang on exit on Vista 32 but its sweet on W7. I know its only a beta but it does a wonderful job in most if not all aspects of an upgraded OS.

I have one bug bear and that is non-MS media players. Unless you play with the settings movie playback can be quite pixelated.

Well, no crash on exit just now! Maybe, just maybe after 14 months they've fixed it for me!

the 9 series drivers broke vmr9...still not fixed w/ 9.3 cats.... evr should be ok tho. I just registered all my codecs as directshow and play everything thru wmp

but opengl works now, yay!

Yep. I'm on ATI. I can get around EVR with BSP player in overlay mixer but it kills aero.

I think I'm on 9.2's but will grab 9.3's later. I've tried the preview W7 drivers and they are no different in any regard.

I'm choosy on codecs I install but I think I'm gonna have to go down a route of directshow. I'm pretty sure I can't play MKV files in WMP. Any opinions on a codec pack to grab?

OK, for the less technologically inclined, could someone please explain what this is, and whether or not I should load it up and turn it on?

A codec pack is a download that contains various codec to help you watch and listen to downloaded content.

Most players have their own built in codecs but some files require special ones.

A codec pack helps bridge the gap when you download a video and all you get is audio.. or all you get is an error.

If you've never seen a problem then no real need to install one.

Cheers Bbloke, but it was more about the update than the codec pack that I was asking.

And mainly about the multicore rendering.
Like I have a multicore PC (oh yeah! 2 cores!!! Wooooooo!!!!), so I was wondering if I should switch it on or not.
