xexe's TF2 Zero to Hero Guide
Re: xexe's TF2 Zero to Hero Guide
I once discussed the heavy with Nova, wish i wrote down all the stuff we said. I'll try a few general tips.
1 - Heavy is all about positioning, you need to be in the right place first. You can always wait for the right time. Being in the right place leads to the two things that will keep you alive as a heavy; Firing first and firing effectively.
I'm proud of the compliments i get on my heavy play, but the reality is that i'm not particuarly good, just that i've clocked a good few hours with him and i can judge quickly when i'm going to live or die, kill or be killed.
The first point, firing first; if you're firing first over short to middle distance you will kill any other class unless they crit you. End of story. When you move about a map you should be constantly thinking about giving yourself that advantage, that means using your ears and knowing the layout. 90 % of my kills come from people who's attention was elsewhere before i started attacking them. Get them while their backs are turned, when they are fighting someone else, anything that gives you half a second head start.
Firing effectively involves your aim, which is just basic tracking (aim for the chest at any distance, it makes no difference) and comes from getting used to your mouse sensitivity. Secondly you have to learn how quickly your gun is going to kill a given class/object over a short/medium/long distance. Given that you should always be spinning and ready to fire you should judge quickly whether to fight or run;
- If any class turns a corner and practically bumps into you then you should fight. They will die, even an over healed heavy will go down before you hit half health.
- Middle distance you can safely take down pyros, scouts,medics and snipers. Projectile classes like demo and soldier are much riskier and you can make a call depending on how distracted they are and how much damage you might do before they retaliate.
- Long distance you should avoid attacking pretty much anyone. Competent demos and soldiers will take you out in three shots, don't attack snipers as you have to slow down too much to shoot. Even an over healed heavy goes down from head shots.
Xex was right about the crits. If you're critting, then keeping firing. Even if there's no one there, shoot where they're likely to appear. Even if one bullet hits the advantage is yours.
Keep in mind that you are a big, obvious, much prized target for spies. This means spinning around occasionally, firing off random shots, and trying to judge the respawn times on spies so as best to be prepared.
It doesn't need to be said, but remember medics are your friends. Medics give you that extra advantage, that bit more health, that bit more time to make your call. That little bit of lovin' translates into about 5 times as many kills for me. So watch your medics back when you can, compliment him on good ubers, let him know if you're about to leg it because an uber pyro is bearing down on you.
Overall heavy is a suprisingly tricky class to play well, you really do need to able to make those judgement calls quickly. I only started getting a decent kpd with heavy after about 30 hours. The more you play, the more you fine tune it.
The plus side is it's always useful to have one around, just laying down the fire and scaring the bollocks off everyone. You can have a lot of fun even if you're still learning, and you'd be shocked how quickly you'll rack up kill streaks.
So get out there and pick a fatty today!

That one was Corea's tip. =)Advent wrote:Xex was right about the crits. If you're critting, then keeping firing. Even if there's no one there, shoot where they're likely to appear. Even if one bullet hits the advantage is yours.
Thanks, wonderfull stuff, I think I might actually play some more heavy now.
I started to play it a little more when I discovered that if I mediced myself to #1 on my team and then switch to heavy I get a hellofalotta crits. =D

I got just a tiny bit to add to sniper, keep moving when sniping and when you shoot a enemy but miss him or dont kill him, move to cover whilst in zoom, walk back out when bullet is in. Fire away and repeat this. The noobs guide to sniping, HURRAH!

It still hurts cuz I try so hard to raise my KPD ratio ='(Selby wrote:Xexes I was joking mate, a good article you wrote.

Re: xexe's TF2 Zero to Hero Guide
When I started playing TF2 I was exclusively playing medic...then when I saw my kpd was 0.06 I thought I should get out there a bit more and experiment with the other clases. My average kpd is now 1.6xexes wrote:It still hurts cuz I try so hard to raise my KPD ratio ='(Selby wrote:Xexes I was joking mate, a good article you wrote.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but thats why idea of a Festers Place 'Tag' went out the window. We know who we are. We know what we are about - and it ain't about dedicating ourselves to be the best. Its about getting off our faces and coming on for a laugh. Not that I'm knocking clans - the players who dedicate themselves liek that are way better than me and I admire that; there have been some wicked videos posted showing off players skills and thats cool. I'd just rather come on, talk bollocks, have a laugh and upset the skilled players by burning themjased10s wrote:Cheeky fecker johnni. My hours racked up are there because i have put my heart and soul into this game to make a special place, A place where ur lowly hour playing ass comes to play. I never and never will profess to be a better player than anyone. Im the most average player known to man or beast but im not in it for the stats like you, Im in it for meeting nice people and making friends. I feel sorry for the stat leading life u live. Chill out and die a bit,,,,,
My Question was am i uber or stupid, Well ?

Here is a really interesting site.
It goes over each class. Shows stuff like class weapon damage, crit damage, etc.
(Not sure of its accuracy)
http://www.tfportal.de/tf2_classes.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
