How got it all so f*cked up? (music thread)

Post by krikke » Sun Dec 14, 2008 2:44 pm

While surfing the internet and looking for some good music I came across this video clip of one of my all time favourite songs: sugarhill gang - rappers delight.

Although the song dates from 1979 (I think I made my first steps back in '79 and crapped my pants 3 times a day) it is just one of those tunes that stands the test of time.

While watching the clip I started comparing this awesome music from then with the rap from now.
When seeing those blokes sing, act and have pure fun on the song, it's like black and white contrast with the vulgair rap scene from today. It made me remind that in order to have good dancing fun, dirty lyrics, naked women and street gang wars are not needed in any way.

If you listen to the text, it's just a neutral presentation of the group members and some allday talk. Nothing compared to the dirty shit they make us listening to now. No ho's, no fuck, no shit, no gunblast samples and no aggression at all.

I am not acting like some churchboy -I like some of the current rap too- but the difference is huge. In that time it was all about peace and having a blast with your friends, nowadays you gotta be either a pimp or psychokiller in order to be cool to the public.

Ahhhhhh the good old days! :D

Its a great song and lucky for me I have the extended version sat on my hard drive.

I remember Grandmaster Flash and white lines too... another classic.

I have to agree with ya there krikke. I was only talking about this to a friend yesterday.
I hate the vast majority of rap these days. The ego on some of these arse holes is massive. I hate the way these days its all about money and women. And why exactly is it a good thing to be a "pimp"?
