Last night I heard someone say that TF2 Supports Dual Processors. I looked it up and someone said you have to put a command to force it to run on the other processor. They say it'll crash a lot though. Only thing is I can not seem to find what the command is. No one on that site said what it was. :? anyone know?

Hmm, I thought TF2 automatically used both cores after one of the more recent updates. No doubt Del will clear up the issue.

Steam just about uses the 2nd core the first core is still #1

So there is very little chance they have got around to making it use 4 cores.. its still using HL backbone and that was around before all these multi cores.

Ugg STEAM!!! Crashes my computer all the time. So steam will acctually use the 2nd Core? I thought windows desided which one it would use. I'm guessing xfire is using my 3rd and Symantec on the 4th LMAO. Hum, That leaves ATI control pannel, Creative Control Pannel and god knows what is running to find a core. No wonder my single core was screaming murder!

Nothing is simple, del, when it come to technology. Sometime's I'm amazied it acctually works!

Yeah Fester, I get lost sometimes. I think I got it now. You were saying Steam just about uses up all the other core while TF2 is running (In a dual core CPU).

Willy, your post actually sounds like you need to do some research first.

As far as I know there is no true declaration of which processor gets used for a specific program. Most are single threaded apps that would generally sit and use the first CPU It finds. That means ALL your apps will use CPU #1 unless otherwise told different.

You can check which process uses which cpu via Task Manager | Processes. Right click on a program name and select set affinity.

If you wish to dictate which process uses which CPU then you have a couple of options.

1. Prioaff (I think).

This is a program that you use to start an application on a specific CPU. You have to generally change the Program command within the programs shortcut with something like "prioaff 0x1 steam.exe". That actuallys starts prioaff first and tells Steam to use a different CPU.

2. WinXPLauncher

This is a GUI that is a little easier to use than the above. You setup shortcuts with in the app and specify which cpu each shortcut program is to use. A less fiddly but does come with some hang ups when using it.

I would go as far as saying that if a games CPU usage on a 2 cpu machine is pulling 50% usage then that game is using 1 cpu 100% of the time and generally proves the rule of cpu assignment.
