A hacker broke into a Homeland Security Department telephone system over the weekend and racked up about $12,000 in calls to the Middle East and Asia.
even better, they didnt notice themselves, the telco had to notify them of it.

this shouldnt be any real surprise to anyone, i hear about ppl hacking into some sort of us federal agencies like once a year and then the states has to blow it way out of perportion, garenteed this was someone in the steats who did it and they did so to prove it can be done, im willing to bet it was a late 20s early 30 year old who did it, prolly while at work, prolly works in some office. IMO the states should thank whomever did it, better some joe then terrorists

You want blown out of proportion?
There's a guy in the UK called Gary McKinnon, bit of a fruitcake....he hacked into a load of US military computers (from UK) looking for evidence of extraterrestrials and whatnot. He was caught in the UK, but they decided not to prosecute him.
The yanks then decide they want to extradite him and make an example of him. UK courts ok'd it, he's appealing at the minute with the EU court of human rights. But if extradited and found guilty (which he is), he can face up to 60 years in prison and/or a trip to gitmo for his troubles.
if he was tried in the uk, he'd have gotten some community service

Mind you the best darwin award was the guy that retro fitted a belt sander to his sofa so he could hump it. Silly fucker shot his load on the electrics and fried himself!!!

compare a car manual for a european vs us car.
euro manual = specs of car, how to use it's gizmo's, maintenance tips, etc
us manual = how to drive, how not to drive, excessive amount of disclaimers and the contents of the euro manual
it's about twice the size, just filled with 'cover our asses against litigation' nonsense
toco, dunno if he has been labeled a terrorist, but he's labeled as one of the biggest threats to national security, so in essence the same thing

It does sound bleak for the guy. Lets hope it doesn't go the way of the "worse case" scenario. He'd be a seriously good assest to any company requiring stringent security protocols. After all don't some of the better viral writers end up working for company who write virus scanners?!

Did anyone hear about the warning on the superman costume.
"Wearing of this garment does not enable your child to fly"
