Actor Gary Coleman has died at the age of 42 in a hospital in Provo, Utah after what his family called “a serious medical problem.” RadarOnline reports that Coleman was hospitalized on Wednesday and then slipped into a coma and was on life support after suffering an intracranial hemorrhage he sustained as the result of a fall. Coleman never grew above 4'8? due to a congenital kidney disease. He received kidney transplants in 1973 and 1984, and required daily dialysis for the rest of his life.
Coleman became a breakout child star on the 1978 sitcom Diff’rent Strokes, and eventually earned as much as $70,000 an episode at the show’s peak. Coleman was frequently identified with his character’s catchphrase, “What’chu talkin’ ’bout Willis?” However, Coleman’s personal life was a roller-coaster that included lawsuits, attempted suicide, bankruptcy, and assaulting a woman while working as a security guard. However, Coleman tried to balance the bad press by his continued willingness to lampoon himself in array of cameo appearances.
