Now come along Mr. Cowell - sing it with me:
"Fuck you I won't buy what you tell me"
For anyone not in the UK who has no idea what I'm on about; an internet campaign to get Rage Against The Machine to be the UK Christmas number 1 instead of the annual "X-Factor" winner (horrible talent show) was successeful.

Call me a cynical old fucker but havn't you all just given sony music twice as much money as they would have got, they are both signed on the same label. And am I the only one who sees the irony of half a million people joining a group then buying a song with the lyrics "I won't do what you tell me"

Thats what you and the majority of the other smug gits on the internet are saying

; but the argument was never about Sony making money.
I don't have a problem with Sony making a load of money, as there are a number of artists I like who are signed to Sony, and I'm hoping Sony will use the extra cash injection to promote them.
The whole point of the exercise was to kick Simon Cowell and his little X Factor empire up the arse and prove that there are those of us who care enough about music (and the Christmas number 1) to want to make the point that just because he has a monopoly on ITV and the majority of the top 10 does not mean he totally controls it; and we won't stand for insipid, crappy, booring songs every year. It wasn't even a new song - another over produced shitty cover version!
