I was reading a story on ubercharged.net about “Why RED and BLU are really fighting" in the game. It goes on to talk about sandviches. Two heavy's from Moscow owned a sandwich shop, in a disagreement about the name of the shop they were forced to part ways and compete, this escallated into Costa Coffee v Starbucks type warefare.... it is an ok story.

So what is yours? “Why RED and BLU are really fighting.”??

That could be the tag line for the TF2 movie

Shortly after Vietnam a small band of United Nations soldiers crash landed on Ascension Island (its a real place). In an dispute regarding how they should get off the island the men (and possibly a woman) from Squadron II Red and Squadron II Blu (the 'e' from 'blue' couldnt fit on their shoulder patches) argued whether or not to save their precious cargo of an A-Bomb from the payload area of the plane. To save weight RED decided to leave it behind whereas those in BLU whose squadron was responsible for the payload did not want to part with the precious cargo.


RED decided that the only way to save weight, was to cut down on human cargo - to wipeout the BLUs and go it alone.

Two factions emerged on both sides of the island, a scotsman, a russian, a german, a few americans, an aussie, a frenchman and pyrotechnic twins who weren't aloud in sunlight. A loyal rivalry of hatred grew. Day and Night RED and BLU fought for their beliefs, blood was shed.

As a matter of fate, both teams were saved and rescued on different parts of the island - one by the UN, the other by the underworld. As the world changed, the UN crumbled, leaving an elite band of men (and possibly a woman) known only as RED and BLU - a bitter rivalry almost equal to that of Wigan and St Helens ('sint el inz').

Intelligence was important, espionage, blood sweat and tears spewed on all types of terrain. The BLUs only way of defeating the RED was to use their A-Bomb payload in a specifically designated area to wipe them out, for this they needed intelligence. The REDs only way of survival was to defend what they knew from the BLU.

Sometimes BLU think they have cracked the code, until they find out they need more information.

The scene is set, upon a village on the Amalfi Coast of Italy. A man known only as a Civilian is hunted. He has information, important... information which is vital to the BLU cause. The village is Avanti - clinging onto the sea cliffs, with picturesque villas and a small italian church at the top of the hill. The BLU spy, known to some as Frank, knows the Civilian has vital intelligence hidden across his village of Avanti, to unlock the codex-type encryptions BLU figure that they need to advance uphill to their goal.

The Civilian is hidden, always hidden - waiting -to be hunted. One day he shall emerge, with RED by his side.

Avanti isnt the exception, it is the norm. For BLU have their own secrets, secrets which RED will find intriguing. The RED heavy, a russian, whom I shall nickname Boris, has a pengant for sandwiches - something which mysteriously heals him, but for a secret ingredient is missing from the RED team, an ingredient that was to be found on the BLU side of Ascension Island. BLU has the intelligence for this ingredient.

It's all fairly obvious. Just look at the official website, logos and artwork. It's all showing RED team members.

BLU is just fighting for equal representation. A just cause in my opinion.
