Thanks for the info and links, jased. Insomnia was played hella lot in TV/radio back then. The song is not bad but it only starts to shine from 2:20. The rap part is boring to me.
Ratpack, my childhood missed them completely somehow. I wouldn't say I loved them so much anyway, sorry. Except for "1st day of my life", which has a similar tune to Paul Van Dyk's "For An Angel".
Speaking of Rave, I prefer it when mixed with Techno. Which makes it a completely different subgenre called Happy Hardcore, eg. my favs from the time when I was a schoolkid:
A few years later many variations of the Dance genre started to rule the radios and I started loving music like those from Highland, Sash!, E-Type, Fragma, or what is even better:
The era from 1998 to 2002 was the best for dance music IMO. But then DJs/bands like Special D, Cosmic Gate, etc. introduced their Trance which I totally hated (followed by Cascada's Dance/Hands Up that made things even worse for me - that's when I started preferring Rock/Metal/Alternative/etc.), until the genre was finally softened down to these more catchy, poppish tunes, which I would hardly call Trance anymore:
Unfortunately the live performances of many of the bands listed above weren't their strongest sides for obvious reasons. (E-Type and Novaspace took the art of playback to the extreme.) Still their music rocked.
I could mention a lot of other stuff but just keeping the long story short otherwise I would start spamming too.
@HitmanTJ03: All your links are great, I like them both!
