I'm not talking about stupid republicans. Patriotism is the blind love of your own country.
It causes issues in America, Britain, France, Israel, pretty much anywhere.
I have never seen any good come of it.
If someone asked me if I was proud to be British, I would probably say no.
we have a history in the slave trade. we brutally killed and wiped out many indigenous peoples, from the Americas to Africa to Australia, because they were "savages".
There is records of us taking Australian aboriginal babies from the concentration camp we put them in.
then our couragous troops would bury them up to their shoulders, and proceed to smash their heads off to use as polo balls.
Am I proud of britain, FUCK NO. I am ashamed.
Patriotism is not the blind love of your country, it is simply having love for your country.
Unfortunately, it does get a bad rep from all the shitbags who use it as an excuse to incite hatred and violence etc.
The perfect example of constructive patriotism is voting. If you don't care about your country, you won't bother voting, but if you do, you will vote. Of course, there will always be parties and individuals who will try to exploit this patriotism for more nefarious purposes (e.g. in the UK the BNP).
