It's an excellent show, though I was actually a bit disappointed with the Easter special. I'm looking forwards to the new torchwood series as well. The best episode IMO was "Blink" with the moving statues.

Blink was written by Steven Moffat, if I'm not mistaken, who is taking over as the showrunner from Russell Davies. Davies, while reviving the show quite well, also had a tendency to make it more kid friendly (he came up with the stupid farting aliens). For some reason, I don't think he ever got the fact that the reason a lot of people have such great memories of Dr Who growing up is BECAUSE it scared the crap out of them! It's the same deal with the Incredible Hulk TV series, I've met countless people who all said they used to hide behind the couch as kids when the green guy appeared on screen!

Hopefully Moffat will bring this aspect back to Dr Who, and after a brief check on d'internet, he also wrote the following episodes:

"The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances" - That "Are you my mummy" one!
"The Girl in the Fireplace" - interesting time travelling fireplace one!
"Silence in the Library"/"Forest of the Dead" - really good episode which included a woman who knows the Doctor in the future.

This bodes well for the future of the show, in my opinion.

Nerd/Geek rant over. EXCELSIOR!!!

Yeh good shouts Eagle, those episodes were certainly some of the best because of the (still not huge) terror they contained. After seeing the old episodes of dr Who which were terrifying, I was dissapointed when the new series started, especially with the fake dolls they brought back. The old episode with the plastic dolls was one of the scariest I can remember seeing, and yet Mr. R.T. Davis made it, as you say family based. We want to be scared!

I'm not a fan of Torchwood but Dr Who has been good from the start.

Some favs eps have been the 2 part WW2 - Are you My Mommy (starred Christopher Eccleston). Had an air of nostalgia to some of the older seasons to it. Also, the one with "Don't Blink" (starred David Tennant). The Christmas specials have always been worth watching with exception to Catherine Tate of course.

Michelle Ryan just keeps getting better and better since leaving Eastenders. The BBC re-adaptation of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (with James Nesbitt) was a worthy watch too. As for Bionic Woman... well.. just a big shame they cancelled it. :(

Tom Baker and Peter Davidson were always my fav Dr's. I was mortified when Tom Baker fell from the Pylon... Thought that was gonna be it... ooo the memories.

I won't try spin offs of any show I like cause you just know that they'll either just be really shit or good, but won't to the original show justice and ruin it. Also, the plot line interweaving can give you a headache.

Yeah, I saw Blink yesterday after reading this thread and last night I found it a littlr hard to sleep. Just this in my head:

Fun Fun Fun, but still a great episode indeed.

Is it just me, or am I the only one that thinks Torchwood is a big smoking pile of crap?

I mean ffs, you got like the playmobil version of Area51 inhabited with exactly five people (if the base is not being invaded), who also happen to be the biggest fuckups in life. Most of the time, the problems come from one of them. Also theres no sexual tension anymore if the lead characters jump everything with a pulse (or without, see season2), then there is only awkwardness and pity left.

I'm with you there Keasis, I have no time for Torchwood at all.

It was supposed to be "like Dr Who, but more adult" but unfortunately, that doesn't seem to mean more mature or darker storylines.
