No More Room in Hell - an HL2 zombification

Post by zipscool » Thu Jun 03, 2010 10:27 am

Attention! The following thread will be broadcasted in allcaps! Hold on to those earplugs folks!

http://nomoreroominhell.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Okay maggots! It's clear to me that some of you don't know the first thing about zombie survival! Well lucky for you, some of us didn't have lives when we were fourteen and someone here may or may not have stumbled across the perfect preparation device for when those rotting fuckers smash through your windows and start munching your family! Make no mistake recruits, this will be hard, this will be tough, but with the right stuff, you will make it out of this situation alive with minimal injury and no infection!

history
First of all: do not believe the lies that moddb will have you believe, no more room in hell was the first 'official' zombie modification for half life 2 to be announced shortly after the game's original release! It has spent six years in development, nearing seven and, upon release, will be your bible! It will tell you what to hunt for and how to use them when the undead come a'knocking! It will tell you how to properly defend yourself and your friends against the walking plague! And it will help you turn an everyday shop, home or warehouse into an impenetrable bastion against the decaying remnants of your neighbours (that is until someone fucks it up by letting said neighbours into your new fortress by tossing grenades about, as some we in the corps know as 'fucktards' are prone to do).

firearms
This mod will teach you that the answer to the zombie horde is not running around spraying bullets everywhere, contrary to popular belief, ammunition is in short supply! You will need to aim down the sights of your weapon in order to score a clean kill, be sure to try and aim for the skull, a crotch-shot will do nothing to phase the reanimated corpse of your year 9 pe teacher, satisfying though it may seem!

melee weapons
The next thing that 'nmrih' will inform you of, is that melee weapons, like chair legs, machetes, axes, and even pieces of wood or metal scattered around the place - do not need reloading! They will provide a valuable tool against the undead menace, and if you find yourself surrounded, you may knock back any offending zombie and bug out through the gap you created. Another thing you will need to know, is that a legless zombie cannot run! And an armless zombie cannot grab you and take a chunk out of your jugular! That's right, decapitation and dismemberment are all valuable assets of most melee weapons! And in the hands of an expert, even a rock can be used to lay waste to legions of the damned!

barricade
Now, fighting at close quarters and at range is all well and good against the walking corpses, but what if your party is tired, injured, or even infected?! You cannot necessarily spend your entire time fighting! You may find it necessary to hole up somewhere to either recuperate or await rescue from those army types! However just hiding in a building will not guarantee your safety! You will need to barricade the building in order to keep the undead away. To do this, you will need nails and wooden planks or boards, failing that, you can grab any object at hand and attempt to cover doors, windows and any other entrance to your new hideout. Remember recruits, that barricading is only a temporary solution, any defense will crumble if under enough pressure, and wood does not stand to a thousand hands pounding at it, regardless of how rotten they are!

communication
Communication and teamwork are vital tools in any situation! Without them, how will you know if there is a zombie behind you, poised to nibble on your ear or maybe just go straight for the kill? How will you take such a foe out if you are already concentrating on several of his friends who are much too close for comfort? The answer is simple: you don't! Your teammates however, will! It is in their best interests as well as yours to keep your friends alive, travelling alone will result in you ending up as a dessicated feast on the ground for your innumerable foe! How will you stay together? I mentioned communication didn't i? There will be walkie talkies scattered across the area, and batteries to power them! You must use these if you want to remain in contact with your friends over long distances should you ever be seperated! Be aware however that extended use of these godly devices will result in their batteries wearing down, leaving you unable to coordinate your friends for that final assault or that crucial moment!

infection
I am fully aware that some of you may not survive the ordeal without injury, in which case, you must locate and use a medical aid kit, these 'medkits' as some call them, will patch you up, and ensure that you may continue battling the walking dead! Of course, if one of you may have the misfortune to be bitten, then god help you son, because no amount of current-day medical knowledge will save you. You may then choose - continue as you are and represent a potential danger to those around you! Or put that gun barrel to your head and end their worries once and fr all! Be aware though, that an infected comrade may not always be a liability! He may be able to lead the undead away from the rest of your party, or he may be able to take some of those sum'bitches down with him before turning! The choice, as always - is yours, and yours alone maggots!

victory
There are several modes of play at work in 'nmrih' studios! But barricade is the one that will be shipping out first! In it, you must work togeher to survive waves and waves of zombies! Using the barricade mechanic, you may board up a house or store, and ride out the infection there, or you may move from hideout to hideout, gathering weapons and supplies! No option is as safe or deadly as the other, and each will result in inevitable contact with zack! Each map however, has a time limit, once this time limit is reached, a rescue will arrive, you must all make your way to this point of retrieval and you will have won the battle - and winning in an undead world, is surviving!

There you have it maggots! A comprehensive insight to the new zombie survival guide! I do not wish you good luck, for you have been granted the biggest bombshell i have to offer: knowledge of the foe, knowledge of how to engage him and knowledge of how to survive! And you will survive! Or so help me i will claw my way up to heaven and tear your very soul to shreds!

Ooah!

All hail BBloke, conqueror of Capslock! Seriously though this sounds just a bit too "realistic" to be much fun.

Well we've got L4D, L4D2 and Killing Floor to name but three. All they all not just clones of one another?

Ive kind of got used to the zombie genre. It all seems the same to me. Any time a new zombie game or film comes what i usually think is "hmm might be good, looks just like <insert other zombie game/film>"

l4d and l4d2 are in a different vein to this. this is survival where as L4D is escape.

but yeah this sounds very much like killing floor.

Aw man I was going for a Drill Sergeant vibe too.

Oh well, I suppose I did overdo it :/ wasn't initially planning on typing THAT much to begin with.

Red Orchestra, Operation Flashpoint, ArmA and a shitload of other games are 'realistic', but tons of people still play them. Games don't necessarily have to be unrealistic to be fun, otherwise we'd have no such genre as 'sim' games.

Actually, they had most of their stuff done and almost ready to release back in 2008, unfortunately some inpatient arseholes couldn't wait that long and hacked the site and most of the dev's files, a lot of stuff was lost and they ended up practically starting from scratch. In fact, there was a pretty much unplayable build of the game released not long after the file hack.
Still, good news is that they're in the stage of playtesting it now, working out map bugs, but plenty of work still needs to be done (animations for the zombies so we don't get the old HL2 zombie shuffle, coding for the spawning and the dismemberment system etc.)

Still, have faith, I've heard rumours on their boards that they're hoping for a late 2010/early 2011 release for the beta.
