I re-read the first post and may be it's me but are they taking the stance that "once a criminal - always a criminal"?

Due to the fact that the bank has declared the charge fraudulent, we have no way of determining if subsequent payments are valid or if they will also prove to be fraudulent. While this may not be the case in your situation, we need confirmation from the bank that the original chargeback was withdrawn to protect us from liability for perpetrating credit card fraud.

It seems quite harsh. Although they have said they are limiting their liability. It sounds as though someone in college got a hold of someone's credit card and used it but it was flagged as cancelled or ended up being flagged as cancelled.

If they believe it was you who used the credit card then doesn't data protection laws allow you access to the information which relates to you? That should give you a bit of leverage on getting the info. Sadly though I don't think that's gonna help. It doesn't look like it matters which payment method or card is used, it's more a case of which account it used on. That being yours and that's why it's canned.

I would always plead mitigating circumstances and it may come down to proving that you did actually pay for the goods providing copies of statements and things!

ok i got a new email from em telling that the guy's card owner is me... great ofc he had to put my name on it ...
asked for a change to pay thru bank's web site, or changing to my credit card of 1638 or sumthing...
told that im even willing to pay double just to get that account back no matter what...
