Thanks Mug.

Bandwidth is a concern as the idea is to stream video - not static shots.
Which is why ive been leaning towards hi-def security cams.

The connection here is very good for Spain - 30 meg down / 1 meg up.
In truth im getting 22ish down and a steady .650ish up.
Its a residential connection used only by me.

So i want to be able to stream at a reasonable max.
I appreciate that what you are getting at is that it doesnt matter if i get the worlds greatest hardware if the network doesnt support what we are recording.

At least now i dont feel so daft asking for advice on this.

Here is a live beach cam from down under http://broomecam.info/

Nice beach! Doesn't look like much at 4 am though. :)

Regards the upload speed, might be a problem, I wonder is an upgrade possible? Or at least an uncontended 1mb

that connection speed i have is better than anyone else seems to have round there and is the max available.

it is possible to get uncontended dedicated business lines but only in limited areas and the cost is huge.

as this is a residential property anyway i dont think i could get 1 and only just got this contract.

im just going to have to work towards the best solution that this connection will support.
but if the output isnt better than whats already there nobody will want to subscribe to it.

cheers for all the input anyway so far guys

You won't be able stream at a decent FPS, the problem with higher res camera is that it requires more bandwidth. I thought you were going to use this as a security thing though, if this is just for tourists to see then you won't need a high res camera, especially if you're after something similar to the pictures in:
The resolution in that image is terrible :D
