I know steam already runs as a service and doesnt need admin rights for the games you buy there.
But I got some steam shortcuts that need admin rights, mainly Bad Company 2.(with admin mode on steam just aim at bc2 normal exe without admin rights , it works)
So what can go wrong ?
What are the consequences of running steam as admin ?

google says
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows- ... ows-vista/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I guess it's the same in 7
But why does it need to run as an admin?

I know how to turn it on, but on bc2 I can see pings n all if I set steam to admin , if I ran it normally I could see server pings .

Is this the blasted UAC? I'd turn it off and wouldn't worry about it but thats just me!

I think it is the UAC yeah.
Devvil you can disable that thing that just prompts you to click "Yes" all the time. Google how to disable UAC and the problem (should) go away, like Bloke said.

My memory is getting on a bit and just realised I have Win7 with UAC turn off and run steam as normal. I haven't tried BC2 yet though. I tend to boot to XP for other stuff but I'm sure I'll make it across one day.
