Mic settings redux

Post by BBloke » Thu Nov 27, 2008 11:50 am

It seems to have reared it's head agian so I've started this as a subtle reminder.

There is a post at the top of this forum which gives instructions on setting your mic so it's as user friendly to everyone's ears. If you've ever been advised to check your mic settings then it the place to start.

The thread is here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=961" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If in doubt check. We all get passionate (some more than others) in the heat of battle but we all dont' want bleeding eardrums from it (yes, I've been told the same too) but it would be appreciative if you would help us all enjoy the game without perforating eardrums.

This has been a public health and safety announcement on ear protection. We wouldn't want to have any of you muted now :) ;)

Use headphones not speakers for a start.

wrong!

it's the problem with audio feedback coming through the mic, regardless of speakers/heaphones/tins-and-string

Seems to be a Realtek HD thing, but as I am only on the receiving end I can't be sure, which is why I would like those who had a problem w/ it and fixed it to detail what they did/what settings they use, so when you come across someone in game with it we can tell em the fix rather than 'mate, yer mics fucked'

I thought a very nice person was going to do that regarding the realtek.

Noooooooo.. don't buy a USB soundcard. If anything get a PCI or PCIe card especially if you have a lower end PC. It's help prevent stuttering and FPS loss.

well i probobly have the shitiest comp on festers :) as i have an old sff comp thers no room for a soundcard and i havent noticed any fps loss or other problems . well ofc a "real" soundcard would be alot better . some of the Steelseries more expensive headsetts comes with a usb soundcard and they are alot better then onboard/cheap soundcards and dosent cost more then ~20€

Realtek HD is shit but I've never had a problem with its predecessor AC97. I have 2 mobos with it, 1 active and 1 with an audigy2 card. The other mobo is HD which has an XFi card.

There was unfortunately no easy fix with mine, bloke remote connected and we just tweaked the mic volume and various settings for about an hour and half until we found something that didn't feed back.
The original mic post is a great place for people to start either way.
