ingame karaoke help [input needed]

Post by __fell » Tue May 31, 2011 11:52 am

i am trying to compile a small help file that will be accessible on the karaoke server (eg !karhelp) as there are always people with sound problems and such, i have the main ones but any other ideas, changes to what ive got are welcome (please help :P)

so far:
-------------------------------------------------------------
Things to check if you have no karaoke music:

1. Go to options>multiplayer>advanced, make sure that "disable HTML MOTDs" is unchecked
2. Type "!vol100" in chat - where 100 is your desired volume, NOTE - only do this when no song is playing otherwise the song will restart

3. quicktime codecs?

If you are getting a 'buffer overflow' disconnect message: Type "rate 50000" in console

--------------------------------------------------------------

i think that quicktime is required for the karaoke to work, but is it the whole program or is there a specific codec that can be used?

Doesn't the Karaoke play through an IE based browser window?

I would say no. I don't have quicktime (as far as I know) and things work fine but I may be wrong.

WebKit is the engine behind Safari and Chrome browsers. Its an open source bit of software that renders HTML and its fairly good at it too.
Who's this Bloke guy?

It's actually used in the iPhone browser as well, or at least it should be considering WebKit was originally created by Apple. It was only open-sourced later.

BBloke's correct, Quicktime isn't at all necessary (nor are any other audio programs or codecs).

If there's a page made (which would be pretty useful), then it should have the following things:

1.) The player here (thanks BBloke) embedded into the page to see if they have flash installed and working.

2.) The picture from the miner thread that Sharp Dagger made to make sure people check their settings (maybe add a red circle around the right one).
Sharp Dagger wrote:1. Make sure custom HTML MOTDS is enabled (untick the box). Press the cog button next to options, then scroll down.

3.) Ask them to type /vol 100 into chat (not console) while on the server. This actually sets an ingame browser cookie that should persist across sessions (or at least until steam is restarted). This means if they muted the karaoke a week ago, they might not hear anything now.
